Meeting our Notary Public
Sending a copy of your document to the Notary Public in advance
Although not imperative it is advisable for you to send a copy of the document requiring authentication in advance of your meeting to Sukhpal so that he can see what is required. Sometimes documents provide for a number of witnesses or for the Notary Public to give a certificate e.g. as to the status of the person signing on behalf of a company. Sending in a copy of your document in advance also enables Sukhpal to give a more precise estimate of the likely fees.
Identification documents
We are legally required to check the identity and address of our clients and to keep some of that information in our records
For this reason, the first time you use our services we will need you to show us a photo ID and a proof of address. We may need to take copies but any details we keep will remain fully confidential and will not be used for any other purposes.
The following are some of the forms of ID we can accept. Note that we need to see the original document (not a copy) and we need documents which have not expired:
- Passport
- Photocard Driving Licence
- National Identity Card
- Some official licences and cards, such as armed forces ID cards.
The following are some of the documents you can bring as proof of your current address. Again, you need to bring the original document and not a copy:
- Utility bill (prints of online statements that show your address are fine)
- Bank statement
- Other official documents confirming your address (e.g. a letter from the electoral register).
If you are signing a document on behalf of a company, particularly if it is a foreign company, we may need to ask you to show us evidence that the company exists and that you are authorised to represent it. Sukhpal will be able to advise you which documents you can use in such cases.
Meeting
Usually if Sukhpal has been able to review the document in advance the meeting should not last much more than 30 minutes. If the document requires amendment or if Sukhpal needs to draft a document this timescale is likely to be extended in which case Sukhpal will advise you of this.
Once the document has been signed by you (if required) and notarised, you may take it with you at the end of the meeting and once the notarial invoice has been settled. If legalisation/apostille is required, Sukhpal will retain the document and make arrangements to obtain this before returning the document to you.
Opening hours
Our opening hours are 09.00 – 17.30 Monday to Friday. Occasionally Sukhpal may meet clients outside of these hours but this will be by appointment only.
